Chinese New Year Party 2005!

Welcome to C.A.R.E. Housing Society's Second Annual Chinese New Year Celebration!

Due to the success of last years party, we found that many seniors were very interested in participating in a program like this. Our goal was to make this years party bigger and better than before by encouraging a record number of seniors to participate. This year we went to over 10 seniors buildings and initiated our "Senior Leaders" program to help encourage individual seniors to interact and become involved with their neighbours and peers by encouraging them to organise groups to attend our party.

All of our hard work paid off as we had over 380 participants come to enjoy the day with us. Our record numbers also extended to our volunteers this year. So many generous people wanted to come and help out and even brought their friends along to lend a hand. Our volunteers were instrumental in making the day run smoothly and took on every task in planning, organizing, performances and running the games, prizes and craft booths.

This year we also had some amazing contributions to our party. We would also like to say a big Thank You to our major sponsors whose generosity and willingness to help really made this day possible:

  • David & Maypo Lo
  • Leung Siu Har
  • Chan Wai Kuen
All of our prizes, including over 30 raffle draw prizes and over 400 games prizes, were donated by our volunteers. Our top three raffle draw prizes were:
  • #1 Jade Fruit Tree Sculpture - Donated by Jeanne Chan
  • #2 Hand Knitted Shawl - Donated by Viven Lee
  • #3 Ceramic Vase - Donated by Robin Shaw

This year we had a very full schedule that provided entertainment AND interaction for the seniors. In the morning we had 3 different types of performances to keep the participants' interest. First up was the famous Senior Chinese Dancing Troop. With all of their members over the age of 65, this amazingly agile group of ladies performed a Tibetan Long Sleeve Dance and the Mongolian Dance. In full costume including fashioned slippers and headdress, this troop was definetly a sight to see! Our next performance was Chinese Opera sung by David Lo, Maypo Lo, Judy Hung and Mrs. Li. And our most energetic performance was Disco Tai Chi in dedication to the Year of the Rooster, performed by Mr. Gan.

In the afternoon we brought back our popular casino games booths for an interactive experience and a chance to win from over 500 prizes! There were a variety of games to choose from including Fish Shrimp & Crab, Fan Tan, Bingo and Roulette.

Looking forward to seeing you next year!
